ATHENS — Circleville’s tournament run came to a screeching halt in the bottom of the sixth inning May 15 as Warren put five runners across the plate for a 5-3 win.
The Tigers got off to a good start in the Southeast District semifinal at Ohio University. Sarah Moats took the very first pitch from Warren’s Sarah Greenlee to right field for a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Meghan Brooks.
The Tigers (14-14) added two more in the fifth when Sidney Gray smacked one into right field and used an error by the fielder to advance all the way to third. A sacrifice fly from Abby Keaton allowed her to score.
Moats was the next batter to the plate and sent the first pitch over the fence in left center for a 3-0 Tigers lead.
Sydney Wickline started for the Tigers and was keeping Warren (10-12) under control, allowing only four hits through the first five innings.
She yielded her first walk of the night to start the sixth. After a sacrifice, a double brought in Warrens’ first run. Another double left runners on the corners.
At that time, the Tigers moved Sha Ford to the mound, but she wasn’t able to calm down the Warriors.
A single brought in another Warren run. A sacrifice to the second baseman allowed Warren to tie the game.
After a walk, a short popup toward third was misplayed allowing Warren to grab the lead. Then an RBI single up the middle gave the Warriors their fifth run of the inning.
