Vikings, Braves have early MSL lead

Teays Valley’s boys grabbed the early lead in the Mid-State League Buckeye Division Track and Field Championships while Logan Elm’s girls are on top in the other half of  the meet. Fairfield Union sits in second for both meets.

Part of TV’s early standing atop the leaderboard is due to the group of Tucker Kirk, Mat McNeely, Brandon Coleman and Cody Tripp crossing the line first in the 3,200-meter relay in a time of 8:09.78. The Logan Elm group of Mathew Agosta, Justin Boldoser, Andrew Donovan and Kieffer Mosmeier were second, four seconds behind the Vikings.

AJ Warren grabbed another top spot for the Vikings by winning the long jump with a leap of 19-4.5.

TV’s Zeke Fortner took second in the pole vault clearing 13 feet to go with a fourth-place showing in the high jump.

The only other championship on the boys’ side for an area athlete Tuesday came from Amanda-Clearcreek’s Noah Smith who threw the discus 133-7 to top a competitive field of athletes.

In the girls’ field events, Logan Elm’s Lisa Bailey outdistanced the competition in the long jump by more than a foot to claim the MSL crown. She went 16-1.5 while Hamilton Township’s Bethany Robinson was second at 14-8.5 and TV’s Lindsay Newton was third.

Circleville’s Meghan Davis took second in the discus with LE’s Parker Smith third, TV’s Allison Cheeks fourth and AC’s Abigail Farley fifth.

TV’s Alexis Jones took second in the shot put.

Both throwing events were won by Fairfield Union’s Brittany Devall.

LE’s Maria Boldoser took second in the high jump while TV’s Newton was third.

Liberty Union won the only running event held as a final, finishing the 3,200-meter relay in a time of 9:49.15. The Vikings came in third, followed by the Tigers, the Braves and the Aces.

Several preliminaries were held in the sprints for the boys and girls with the finals in those events as well as the distance races and other relays being contested Friday night beginning at 6 p.m.
