Bulldogs stay unbeaten with 45-14 win over LE

CARROLL — Bloom-Carroll completed an undefeated run through the shortened regular season Friday night as Logan Elm was unable to stop the Bulldogs in a 45-14 final.

“They were more physical than we were and that was from the onset,” Logan Elm coach Terry Holbert said. “From the opening kickoff they took it to us, they were more physical, they were verry well prepared and we just didn’t respond well on both sides of the football and in all aspects. They ran the ball and were physical up front.

“I really think that was the story of the night.”

The Bulldogs (6-0, 5-0 MSL Buckeye) held the Braves in the negative when it came to rushing yard and yielded only six first downs to their opponents.

Meanwhile, BC ran for 241 yards with Hobie Scarberry leading the way. Scarberry carried the ball 21 times for 169 yards and scored three times on two one-yard runs in the first quarter and a 25-yarder in the third.

In the first five games, only two teams had scored on the Bulldogs and neither of those did it twice. The Braves (3-3, 2-3 MSL Buckeye) were able to post two touchdowns through the air.

In the second quarter, Braylen Baker set up the Braves with good field position after a kickoff return to the BC 41. A few plays later he hauled in a pass from Conner Robinson for a 13-yard touchdown.

In the third quarter, Robinson connected with Gabe Chalfin who was able to outrace the BC defense for a 67-yard touchdown.

Robinson threw for 161 yards in the contest.

Now that the modified regular season is complete, the playoffs begin next week with the Braves hosting Lakewood (2-4) Saturday.

“I told our guys that we’ve got to spend some mirror time,” Holbert said of assessing where the team is. “We’re going to examine this film hard first before we do anything in looking forward to next week. We’re going to learn and grow and get better from this film and then we’ll start preparing for Lakewood.”

Bloom-Carroll has a week off before playing the winner of the Indian Valley and Indian Creek game.

While Holbert said he would have loved to be carrying some momentum into next week’s game, even coming off a loss he’s told his team that they’re blessed to be able to be playing on Friday nights as several other area teams have had to cancel games because of COVID 19 exposures.

Protecting Friday nights is something the team talks about on a regular basis.

“We preach it every day in practice about the precautions and everything that is in place,” Holbert said. “What you do outside of the school, or the practice field or the football field has a huge bearing on continuing to play or not.

“We remind our guys every Friday night that it’s just a blessing to be out here playing because not everyone has that opportunity.”
