7th-seeded Braves take top spot in district

ATHENS — Logan Elm entered the postseason tournament as the seventh seed in the Southeast but a 51-45 win over Warren Thursday night gave the Braves the No. 1 spot in the district and a berth in next week’s regional tournament.

Gabe Chalfin led the Braves (19-7) with 18 points and Isaac Ward kicked in 14 to help the Braves claim the district title.

Warren had the upper hand early as the Warriors got out to a 13-6 lead after the first quarter and led 24-19 at halftime.

The Braves came out on fire to start the second half and a drive and score from Jason Sailor early in the third gave LE its first lead of the game at 26-24.

The period ended with the game tied 31-all.

LE was able to maintain an advantage through much of the fourth quarter and a basket from Jared Harrington in the final minute seemed to be the dagger that finished off Warren.

The Braves return to Ohio University’s Convocation center on Thursday, March 12, to take on the winner of Friday’s East District final between Tri-Valley and Meadowbrook.
