WILLIAMSPORT — Friday night belonged to the wrestlers in Westfall’s gymnasium this week. But it was Westfall’s guest — Teays Valley — that came out victorious.

The Vikings won 13 of the 14 weight classes, seven by pin, to notch a 67-3 win.

“Our kids came in, we were prepared, we wrestled hard and we knew they had some scrappy kids,” TV coach Todd Nace said. “We tried to keep them in business mode and I think we took care of business.”

“We did not wrestle good. I expect more,” Westfall coach Will Breyer said. “They wrestled 10 times better than us. We’ve got to find our identity and do better in championship February.”

The night started with TV’s Jaden Smith winning by forfeit at heavyweight, then Kadin Walls won by pin in 1:17 at 106 pounds and Alex Masters won by forfeit at 113.

At 120, TV’s Josh Thompson went the distance to get a 12-8 decision over Lexi Wickline and TV’s Nate Hammond posted a 7-4 decision over Marcus Whaley.

Jacob Smith (132 pounds), Jacob Williams (138), Carson Weiss (145) and Jeremiah Thomson (152) all posted wins by pin for the Vikings.

TV’s Sam Fabbro won by a 14-6 major decision at 160 pounds, Hunter Young came through with a pin in 1:13 at 170 and Liam Wilson battled Scott Mulkey to a 2-0 decision at 182 pounds.

Westfall picked up its lone win of the night at 195 pounds when Josey Kelly won a 5-3 decision over Nick Campbell.

The final match of the night went to Teays Valley’s Nathan James who won his match at 220 pounds with a pin in 50 seconds.

“We had two kids out today so our two backups wrestled and won at 13 and 20. So, that was impressive for them to come in here after, really, a day’s notice,” Nace said. “It was a good outing for us. Unfortunately we can’t wrestle this weekend.”

This weekend’s weather cancelled the Vikings’ scheduled tournament at Hamilton Township, so next up is a tournament at Watkins Memorial.

It was the final home match for Westfall seniors Lexi Wickline and Scott Mulkey

“I think Scotty and Lexi did a great job and put all they had out there,” Breyer said.

Next up for the Mustangs is a trip to western Ohio to take part in Eaton High School’s tournament where they’ll see many of the same kids they’ll be facing in the sectional tournament.

“We’re going to Eaton to try to see those Division II kids. It’s an overnighter and it’s a great tournament,” Breyer said. “Then we go to team states, our league and sectionals. We’ve got to get better.”
